Our Purpose

To stimulate and sustain the use of steel framing, metal roofing, and other metal building materials as the preferred, sustainable products for construction today.

Accomplishments (1997-Present)

• Increased public awareness of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing by participating in trade shows (in Hawaii, the Mainland, and overseas) and worked closely with developers' sales and marketing teams. 

• Printed annual resource directory to support membership

• Grew CFS market share from 25-70 percent in less than 5 years.

• Hosted six world class international conferences (Pacific Rim Steel Framing Conference)

• Training & Education

• Offered services to new contractors to reduce learning curve.

• Held regular dinner meetings with timely topics and provided good networking opportunities.

• Served as an information resource and database, including the latest cost effective details.

• Solved field issues and responded to builder needs in the field.

• Developed training curriculum and assisted builders with training programs. Helped to overcome the training deficit.

• Trained code officials and achieved standards acceptance in all four Hawaii counties

• Conducted training programs for the Army Corps of Engineers and Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

• Incubated a strong core of structural engineers in Hawaii to be proficient in the design of CFS structures. Developed a close relationship with the Cold Formed Steel Engineers Institute (formerly known as the Light Gauge Steel Engineers Association).

• Introduced SE's to mid-rise CFS.

• Started educational programs on the Big Island.

• Increased Efficiency of Steel Framing Practices

• Brought mainland manufacturers to Hawaii to use jobsites as laboratories to improve tools and efficiencies e.g. screw guns, fasteners, bit tips, saw blades, floor joists, connectors, etc.

• Brought funding to the University of Hawaii to conduct research on corrosion, load bearing top tracks, etc.
